Lending a Hand to the Indigent Homelessness is like a diseases, increasingly taking down the most vulnerable of our population, but many Americans are insensitive to it. â€Å"The population of the desolate increased by two percent from 239,759 to 243,701 in the years 2009-2011 according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness† (Fagan 330). At this rate many could possibly face the same problem and have to deal with the harsh conditions homeless do on a daily basis. Although homelessness is frown upon for the common belief that it is a waste of tax payer’s resources, homeless assistance programs need to be funded in order to provide stability and prevent more diseases along with the risk of destructive behavior, for those who face these daily struggles. Homelessness housing and shelter programs must be supported more than ever since stability seems to have become a luxury in this country, or it is at least for the thousands of nomads we walk by on the streets daily . It is heartbreaking to know that many Americans struggle every day to find a place to sleep, eat and shower, often entire families. This is a situation that many without a home must go through every day but should not have to, for this is America. â€Å"Recession has shifted the levels of poverty, resulting in low-wage employees in inadequate housing conditions or no housing at all† (Beegle 34). Nowadays no person is safe from becoming collateral damage of the collapse of the national economy.
